Madness You Can Trust, by Brian Sergent
During The Arts on Sunday with Lynn Freeman
This week’s Sunday Drama, Madness You Can Trust, is the fourth and final play in our Spring Season of New Drama. In his first outing as a writer for radio, Sergent delivers a funny, touching and uplifting play about Gideon Michael Delancy, a photographer who voluntarily admits himself to a psychiatric ward attached to a New Zealand public hospital.
A top-notch cast features in Sergent’s largely autobiographical tale which gives a glimpse into institutional life in New Zealand for those undergoing treatment for mental illness.
CAST: Peter Hambleton, Ken Blackburn, Sarah Peirse, Jude Gibson, Jed Brophy, Nikki MacDonnell, Nick Blake and Mel Dodge. And introducing the writer’s son, Jack Sergent.
Produced by Duncan Smith for Radio New Zealand Nation
